Unpopular Opinion time

Okay, I want to start by saying. I am a woman. I do not condone spousal abuse, or abuse  in anyway.

But you know what really grinds my gears? People that say “Woman deserve to be revered.”

Revered: to show devoted deferential honor to : regard as worthy of great honor

from Merriam-Webster

A lot of the times when people say that they’re often come off a tangent about how men that abuse women are disgusting. And no, trust me I totally agree with that. You should never abuse anyone you’re in a relationship with. Verbally or Physically.

But there’s something about the word revere. Honour.  When I think of something or someone being revered, I see someone being put on a pedestal. Worshiped, almost. Maybe that’s just me and I’m taking this too far. But the whole idea of woman should be revered annoys me.

You shouldn’t have be to honoured to NOT be beat. Why are women honoured? Yes, somebody may say “women are the source of life! Mothers gave birth to us!” Yes. But without your father you wouldn’t be alive. ( Apart from all the potential new discoveries in science.)

Woman don’t deserve to be honoured anymore than men; just for being born female. If you take a regular woman and a regular man. Same credentials. Same background everything. I think both people should get the same amount of respect.

I believe that everyone should be treated equal.  I truly believe this. I may not express it that well at all times. But I honestly believe in that.  Two of the things I hate most in this world are racism and sexism. I’ve lost a few friends over gay-rights debates and blatant racist remarks. Why would anybody want to hang out with friends that spew egocentric garbage in a non-joking manner?

You shouldn’t be revered just because you’re a woman. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have basic human rights. Everyone does. A man or woman doesn’t deserve to get beat.

But sometimes I feel like people totally forget that men get beat too. And when they say things like “Women deserve to be revered.” it just rubs me the wrong way.

Just my two cents.
